Dr.
Ihor Basko graduated from Michigan State University with special interests
in Internal medicine, cardiology and bone surgery. Since 1971 he has been
devoted to the study and practice of acupuncture, herbal medicines, dietary
therapy, homeopathy, massage, and other alternative therapies for animals.
I adopted Holistic medicine into my veterinary work because it focuses on the true nature of healing - prevention of chronic disease. Holistic treatments have no side-effects and it combines the best of both traditional veterinary care and alternative therapies.

In
addition to treating animals, Dr. Basko is also an educator and leading
authority on holistic animal health. He is one of the founders and current
President of the Veterinary Botanical Medical Association. He frequently
lectures to veterinarians, animal trainers, and animal caretakers on the
use of Holistic modalities in Hawaii, North America and Asia. Aside from
lecturing, he has published many magazine articles, chapters in books
and journals, has been a guest on numerous TV and radio shows and has
partnered with Genesis
Resources in the development of a herbal and mineral pet supplements
line of products. Dr. Basko believes that Holistic medicine is the best
way to preserve good health and prevent illness.

Dr.Basko lives on Kauai with his wife, Jane Winter. He enjoys his time with Jane and his dogs while hiking, hunting for medicinal/edible mushrooms and other medicinal plants, camping and preparing healthy meals. He also enjoys surfing and sailing and finds the ocean a source of healing for the mind, body and soul. He is devoted to his weekly Yoga practice and follows the Zen Buddhist philosophy.
I have very high standards when it comes to caring for my cats, and am fortunate to have them under Dr. Basko's care. He is a well-respected, talented expert in his field, which is important. Equally important, though, is his kind, gentle nature, and the fact that he treats animals with a great deal of respect and dignity.
